1438389 N-Substituted methacryl or acrylamides KOHJIN CO Ltd 30 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972 1 Nov 1972] 50447/73 Heading C2C A process for preparing an N-substituted methacryl- or acrylamide of general Formula I wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and one of R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> is a hydrogen atom and the other is an alkylaminoalkyl group, or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> together with the adjacent nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic ring comprises pyrolysing a 5-carboxamide-2-norbornene of the general Formula II The 5-carboxamide-2-norbornene of Formula II may be prepared by reacting a Diels Alder adduct formed from cyclopentadiene and methacrylic or acrylic acid or a derivative thereof with an amine of general Formula III The pyrolysis can be performed either in the vapour phase or in the liquid phase generally at a temperature of from 200‹ to 600‹ C.
