Abstract

Reflectors and lenses within bulbs; filaments, supports for.-A glass rod in the form of a close spiral is mounted on or formed in one with the filament-support to modify the light by refraction and reflection; it may be coiled from a length of straight rod, or may be moulded in the final form. Fig. 7 shows a '' half-watt " lamp in which the spiral carries upwardly-bent filament supports; alternatively, the filament supports may depend from a collar on the spiral. In modifications, the spiral is mounted between collars on a straight filament-support rod, which may be of greater diameter than usual; or one spiral may be mounted inside a larger one. The spiral may be cylindrical, conical, triangular, square, hexagonal, octagonal, or of hour-glass form; and the rod of which it is formed may be of round, oval, hexagonal, octagonal, square, oblong, prismatic, single or double convex, elliptical, or fluted section. The rod may be twisted or may consist of two or more strands plaited or interlaced.
