Abstract

1465524 Fire detector and extinguisher NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 4 Feb 1975 [23 Jan 1974 15 March 1974] 3193/74 and 11608/74 Heading A5A A fire detection and extinguishing system comprises a main tube 12 connected (a) at one end to a series of bifurcated detector tubes 11 whose open ends 15 extend into areas 13 to be protected from fire, each end 15 having a restrictor nozzle 16 thereon, and (b) at the other end to a control unit 10 which contains a smoke detector 19, a vacuum pump 20 and an extinguishant bottle 17 (containing for example BCF) and a solenoid valve 18. In operation, air is sucked by 20 from 13 via 11 and 12, wherein on detection of the presence of smoke in this air by 19, the solenoid valve 18 is actuated by 19 via relay 24 to vent the entinguishant from 17 through 12 and 11 and into 13. An inflammable gas detector 22 and radiation detector 23 may also be placed in the air stream to actuate the system. An alarm system 25 is also actuated by 19.
