Abstract

1465428 Proteins from food waste H MULLER 27 March 1975 [1 April 1974] 13068/75 Heading C3H Materials containing proteins, starches and cellulosic materials are hydrolysed in finely divided, fat-free form in aqueous suspension, subjected to ultrafiltration, the filtrate being subsequently subjected to aerobic fermentation and separation of the resulting fermentation products from the liquid medium. The hydrolysis may be acidic, e.g. by use of phosphoric acid or enzymatic, e.g. by use of amylase. Specified species of yeast and bacteria may be used to effect fermentation of the ultrafiltrate. The processing of rusk waste, biscuit waste and bran from flour mills. In Example 1 aerobic fermentation yielding protein also produces nucleic acid and 10.4% asparagic acid, 5À8% threonine, 6À0% serine, 12À4% glutamic acid, 3À5% proline, 5À1% glycine, 6À7% alanine, 2À0% methionine, 4À7% isoleucine, 7À9% leucine, 5À3% tyrosine, 7À1% phenylalanine, 8À0% lysine, 2À5% histidine, 5À8% arginine and 0À8% tryptophan.
