1,174,169. Interferon. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIQUE and INSTITUT NATIONAL DE LA SANTE ET LA RECHERCHE MEDICALE. 2 May, 1967 [2 May, 1966; 14 April, 1967], No. 20360/67. Heading A5B. An interferon-rich preparation is obtained by incubating live human cells (many types of which are specified, e.g. leucocytes) with an induction agent, e.g. a live virus such as parainfluenza type I virus, separating the induction agent not fixed in the cells, continuing the incubation of the infected cells, separating the interferon-containing supernatant and adjusting its pH to 6.9-7.6. The product may be purified e.g. by adsorption with a cation-exchange material buffered at pH 5.9 after dialysis against a buffer, removal of unadsorbed protein and elution with graduated phosphate/ NaCl buffer.
