Abstract

1465275 Apparatus for controlling air-fuel ratio LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 May 1974 [29 June 1973] 31084/73 Heading F1B The air fuel ratio for a combustion engine 10, especially an I.C. engine is controlled by a body 12 having a passage 13 for supplying air to the engine, the passage 13 defining a valve seat 15 from which a plate valve 16 is movable by air-pressure upstream thereof and towards which the plate valve is urged by a temperature sensitive element 18, a fuel supply passage 24 communicating with air passage 13 downstream of plate valve 16 and through which flow is allowed to increase by a valve 21 in response to movement of the plate valve 16 away from seat 15 and a fuel spill valve 28, 29 upstream of the control valve 21 and responsive to a pressure decrease downstream of the plate valve 16 to increase the fuel spill rate. Passage 13 is by-passed by a passage 26 into which fuel passage 24 and an exhaust gas recirculation passage 32 with a constriction 33 open, the exhaust gas helping to atomize and vaporize the fuel. The air-pressure downstream of plate valve 16 acts on a bellows unit 31 to bias the diaphragm 29 to close the spill valve.
