Abstract

1464942 Polyisocyanate addition polymers POLYCHROME CORP 23 Jan 1974 [1 Feb 1973(2)] 03086/74 Headings C3R and C3P Polymers are prepared by reacting (A) an organic polyisocyanate with (B) an organic compound containing at least two active hydrogen atoms followed by end-capping with (C) a compound containing one active hydrogen atom, the polymer before end-capping having a free NCO group content of from 0À17 to 1% by weight. The polyisocyanate is preferably a diisocyanate. Preferred compounds (B) are polyhydroxy compounds, but polyamines may also be used. The compound (C) may be saturated, but preferably contains at least one carbon-to-carbon double bond. If the polymer before end-capping contains more than 1% by weight of free NCO groups it may be chain extended, e.g. with an organic diamine to reduce the NCO content to the necessary level. Photopolymerizable compositions may be produced by mixing the polymer with an addition polymerization initiator activatable by actinic light and an ethylenically unsaturated compound capable of being polymerized by light in the presence of the initiator. The ethylenically unsaturated compound may be mono- or poly-unsaturated.
