Abstract
1464855 Abrasive granules ISC SMELTING Ltd 6 Feb 1974 [3 Jan 1973] 422/73 Heading C4V [Also in Division B3] A method of removing adherent deposits from a metal surface comprises impinging on the surface a stream of a granulated blast furnace slag entrained in a gas. The method may be used to remove rust and/or scale. The slag preferably contains between 10 and 30% of CaO, 25 and 40% of FeO, 15 and 30% of SiO 2 , 5 and 20% of ZnO, and a small quantity of Al 2 O 3 , all percentages being by weight. The slag is granulated by being run into a pit containing water to yield granules which are dried and sized so that more than 50% are within the range 120 to 36 B.S.S. (0.124 mm. to 0À422 mm.).
