1464652 Loose-leaf binding mechanisms SWINGLINE Inc 29 Jan 1974 [1 Feb 1973] 04147/74 Heading B6E A loose-leaf binding mechanism comprises a pair of hinged plates 2, 3, Fig. 2, each carrying a set of co-operating half-rings 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP>, the hinged plates being moved about edges 7 of a casing 1 between an open and closed position in a toggle manner by a pair of actuators 12, which are pivotable in a toggle lever manner in a direction perpendicular to that of the plates and in the closed position of the plates 2, 3, the actuators are interlocked with the casing 1. The locking position is obtained by a section 15a on the actuator 12, Fig. 5, engaging a recessed area 15d at the end of the casing 1. In operation of the mechanism the actuators' leg elements 14, which engage recesses 18, Fig. 3, with their lugs 14a form hinges for the actuators which are also provided with a cross-piece 23 and lug elements 24, Fig. 2, to raise and lower the hinged plates to their respective open and closed positions.
