1464623 Chairs LA-Z-BOY CHAIR CO 20 June 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 27348/74 Heading A4J and A4U [Also in Division F2] A rockable lounge chair has a base 12 comprising a frame having side members 20 supported by front rubber-tyred wheels (31) and rear castors 48, the front wheels being engageable by spring-biased brakes 56 in dependence upon the position of a handle 14. The handle 14 is used to move a leg rest 13 between extended and retracted positions, the brakes 56 being engaged with the wheels (31) when the leg rest moves away from its extended position. The handle 14 is mounted on a square rod 86 and operates the brakes 56 via links 83, 81, 79, 76, a square rod 72 and links 68, 66, 64, the links 79, 76 having a pin 77 and slot 78 lost-motion inter-engagement and the links 81, 79 being adjustably inter-engaged by a screw 84 threaded selectively into one of a plurality of apertures 85. The links 64 are pivoted at 65 on rods (53) having serrated heads forming the brakes 56 and slidably extending through holes (55) in the webs (54) of U-shaped wheel support brackets 32, springs 59 biasing the brakes 56 to their engaged position and the links 64 having cam ends (63) for engaging the bracket webs (54) to disengage the brakes, see also Fig. 6 (not shown). A wire loop 96 connected at one end to the link 83 is connected at its other end to a pivoted member 94 the end (97) of which is engageable with ratchet teeth (95) on the leg rest 13 to releasably lock the leg rest 13 in its extended position, the leg rest 13 being connected to the square rod 86 by linkages 87, see also Fig. 4 (not shown). The body of the chair has a frame 10 which is rockable on and connected to the base 12 by springs 22.
