1464432 Indolobenzazepines ROCHE PRODUCTS Ltd 11 March 1975 [25 March 1974] 19118/76 Divided out of 1464431 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R is methyl or ethyl are prepared either by removal by conventional methods of group R<SP>4</SP> from a compound of Formula IV wherein R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are both methyl or ethyl or R<SP>3</SP> is ethyl or methyl and R<SP>4</SP> is benzyl, or by cyclization in situ of the imine formed by reaction of 1,3-dimethylpiperidone and a compound of Formula II Intermediates of Formula IV above are prepared by reaction of formaldehyde and an amine R<SP>3</SP>NHR<SP>4</SP> with a compound of Formula III formed by reaction of methyl ethyl ketone with a compound of Formula II above.
