Abstract

1464346 Training apparatus for cyclists J E MANUEL 20 March 1975 [22 March 19741 11788/75 Heading A6M A course hazard for cycling events which signals its correct negotiation has a base carrying a signal and means for moving it to a signalling position and two or more treadles which operate the signal to its signalling position when negotiated in a certain sequence; three embodiments are described. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 a flag member 2, pivotally mounted on a shaft 3 and urged by a torsion spring 21 into a raised signalling position is retained within a base 1 by two latches 5, 7 on the ends of journalled treadle rods 4, 6 and released only if both latches are released. When the latches 5, 7 are engaged with the flag 2 the treadle portions 39, 44 are inclined at e.g. 30‹ to the ground. Serrations 33, 37 on the undersides of the latches 5, 7 engage similar serrations (28, 29 Fig. 2, not shown) on the upper ends 24, 26 of the flag 2. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, a flag 52 is similarly mounted in a base 51 having treadle rods 54, 56 carrying serrated latches (55 Fig. 8, not shown), 57, a disabling device 69 being pivotted on the same shaft 53 as the flag 52. The latch (55) operating through a hole (96 Fig. 8, not shown) in the disabling member 69 and the latch 57 hold the disabling member and the flag 52 within the base 51 with the treadles 89, 94 inclined at e.g. 30‹ to the ground. A torsion spring 71 urges the flag 52 and the disabling device 69 together so that the flag can be raised to its upright signalling position only if the disabling member is retained within the base 51 by the latch (55). With the flag 52 and the disabling device 69 retained within the base 51 the treadle 89 is higher above the ground than the treadle 94. A third embodiment, Fig. 9, incorporates the features of the previous two so that a flag 152 is only raised to an upright signalling position provided a disabling member 169 remains engaged by a latch 155 and two other latches 157, 257 release the flag member.
