Abstract

1464332 Handling bulk material HOWALDTSWERKE-DEUTSCHE WERFT AG HAMBURG UND KIEL 21 April 1975 [20 April 1974] 16405/75 Heading B7A Apparatus for handling bulk material at sea, e.g. manganese gathered from the sea bed, comprises a vessel 5 having propulsion equipment and a conveyer (6), Fig. 1, not shown, for gathering the material, and at least one lighterreceiving chamber 7 for a lighter 9, and overhead bunkers 10 for loading the material into the lighters which bunkers are fixedly arranged above the chamber 7 and the parts 12, 13 of the vessel below the chamber 7 are formed by struts. A dryer (16), Fig. 1, is disposed between the conveyer (6) and the bunkers. The chamber 7 can extend obliquely to the centre-line of the vessel, and can have entry and exit openings. A plurality of chambers 7 can be used. The bottom of the chamber 7 can be closed by a buoyant box.
