Abstract
1464325 Plugging cables J T THOMPSON and G W GILLEMOT 2 June 1975 [3 June 1974] 23849/75 Heading H2C A charging device 10, for introducing a polymerizable plugging compound throngh a window in the sheath of a multiconductor cable, comprises a flexible body 11, a charging passage 13 having threaded inlets 14, 15 and threaded caps 17, 18 for sealing said inlets. The device is integrally moulded from a flexible, high strength plastics material such as polyethylene, polypropylene or similar thermoplastics and is backed with a pressure sensitive adhesive 22. The device may have ribs 12, running parallel with the cable, for aiding the trimming of body 11 to the exact size to just wrap around said cable. Also provided with the device is a tool 28 for separating strands of the multiconductor cable, and probes 30 to keep said strands apart. With the device adhered to a cable, the polymerizable material is introduced through one inlet (the other being sealed) by a charging tool (40, Fig. 5, not shown) until the plug extends to both sides of the window. The tool is then removed and the remaining inlet sealed.
