Abstract

1464098 Hydraulic braking systems; master cylinders GIRLING Ltd 3 July 1974 [25 July 1973] 35340/73 Heading F2F An hydraulic vehicle braking system comprises a master cylinder assembly 1 consisting of a pedal operated power valve 2 actuating three parallel tandem hydrostatic master cylinders 3, 4, 5 to provide six independent sources of fluid pressure. The pressure spaces of master cylinder 3 are connected separately to disc brakes 6, 7 on each of the rear wheels of the vehicle; the pressure spaces of cylinder 4 are connected separately to two separate actuators 8, 9 of a disc brake 10 on one front wheel and the pressure spaces of master cylinder 5 are connected separately to two separate actuators 11, 12 of a disc brake 13 on the other front wheel. In the event of failure of the supply of fluid under pressure for valve 2 the pistons of the master cylinders may be applied mechanically. The system may include means to modulate the pressure applied to the brakes from any or all of the master cylinder spaces in the event of a skid.
