Abstract

1463898 Applying carrier stock to containers ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 2 May 1974 [3 May 1973] 19372/74 Heading B8C In a machine for applying resilient plastics carrier stock 16 to a succession of pairs of containers 10, a drum assembly for stretching and applying the carrier stock 16 comprises a pair of wheels 25 carrying a plurality of jaw assemblies 22, each of which comprises two pairs of jaws 33, 34 and 35, 36, and cam followers 49, 50, 51, 52 and fixed cam tracks 60b, 61b, 62b, 63b arranged to move each jaw independently upon rotation of the wheels 25; the outermost jaws 33, 36 being moved by a greater amount than the innermost jaws 34, 35. Each jaw assembly 22 further comprises a pair of guide rods on which the jaws are slidable, and pairs of operating rods linking the jaws with their respective cam followers. The carrier stock 16 has its side edges and longitudinal middle portion folded and is guided onto the drum assembly by guides 20. U.K. patent Specification No. 998,736 is referred to in respect of other details of the machine.
