1463869 Cleaning spinning &c machines SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 11 Nov 1974 [21 Nov 1973] 48704/74 Heading D1F In the operation of apparatus for the removal by suction of broken threads in spinning and twisting machines comprising a suction duct 3, which terminates in a suction box containing a filter 40, and suction tubes 5 and 6 underlying delivery roller 1 with apertures 60 extending towards the spinning stations, entrained staple fibres are readily opened and removed by the flow of air and conveyed to the filter: continuous threads which are not so readily opened and removed are retained by an element 7 (preceding the filter, as considered in the direction of air flow) which is effective to sever the threads, at least when they are subjected to mechanical forces e.g. the pull exerted by roller 1 around which running thread may have become entangled, acting in the opposite direction to and exceeding the force due to the air flow, and perhaps continuously. The element 7 has severing means e.g. a knife, breaking or sawtooth edge or (perhaps relatively reciprocating) off-set saw-tooth edges as on plates 70, 71, Figs. 2-6 (not shown) and may be formed by a serrated edge of a circular opening where tube 5 opens into conduit 3, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown).
