1463639 Removing weld flash in tubes ELEKTROSTAL ZAVOD TYAZHELOGO MASHINOSTROENIA 15 May 1975 20563/75 Heading B3L A burring head for removing a longitudinal inner burr 33 in a welded tube 4 comprises at least two rollers 26, 27 installed on a base 6 to rest on the inner surface of a tube, an elongate body 7 pivoted at one end to the base and at the other end having a holder 21 with a cutting tool 20, support rollers 25 on the end of the body for limiting the depth of cut of the tool, and a flat spring 9 between the base and body for creating a cutting force. A wedge 11 between the base and body acts on the spring and is movable between operative and inoperative positions according to the direction of movement of a link 2 for propelling along the tube. The link 2 is connected to a propelling mechanism 3 and to the wedge 11 which is urged in one direction along a guide 13 in the base 6 by a spring 18. The body is supported by a pivot 8 on the base, the pivot also mounting the spring 9 which is engaged by a protrusion 12 on the wedge. The holder 21 is mounted on a pivot 22 on the body and urged about the pivot by a spring 23. Two lower pairs of rollers 26 on the base 6 and a further pair of rollers 27 mounted on a spring 28 on the base engage the lower surface of the tube, and a pair of upper rollers on the base and a pair of rollers 25 which limit the depth of cut mounted on the body 7 engage the upper surface of the tube. When the head is inserted into a tube 4 held stationary in clamps 5 and moved to the right by the propelling mechanism 3 and link 2, the wedge moves to the right hand end of guide 13 so that the protrusion 12 is out of engagement with a protrusion 36 on the spring 9 so that the body 7 is pivoted to a position in which the cutter is out engagement of the tube. If the burr in the tube does engage the cutter, the holder moves against the spring 23 about the pivot 22. As the cutting tool passes the right hand end of the tube, the direction of movement of the link 2 is reversed moving the wedge to the left hand end of the guide so that the protrusion 12 engages the spring 9 which acts to urge the body upwardly and the rollers 25 into engagement with the tube so that the tool cuts the burr 33 from the tube. Chippings are removed from the tube by a brush 30.
