Abstract
1463086 Wheel detector INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 5 July 1974 [11 July 1973] 29903/74 Heading B7N A train wheel detector comprises a ferrite member including a pair of elongated parallel yokes J1, J2 disposed parallel to the direction of train movement and joined by a transverse element MS, a transmitter coil S disposed on the transverse element and a pair of receiving coils E disposed on one of the yokes J1, with one of the coils on each side of the junction with the transverse element and connected such that in the absence of a train their pick up of an A.C. signal transmitted by the coil S is zero. A pair of coils E can be similarly disposed on the other yoke and their output signals separately processed to provide increased reliability, Fig. 2 (not shown). Multiple arrangements of yokes and coils are also described, Figs. 3-5 (not shown). The coils E provide a peak signal in one direction followed by a peak in the opposite direction on passage of a train wheel whilst a further coil M can be provided disposed above the ferrite member which provides a peak signal in one direction only. These voltages can be processed to provide vehicle presence, speed and direction of movement information.
