Abstract
1462905 Flocculating, sedimentation and dewatering agents CHEMISCHE FABRIK STOCKHAUSEN & CIE 4 July 1974 [4 July 1973] 29766/74 Heading C1C [Also in Divisions C3 and D2] Emulsions of water in a water-insoluble liquid, which emulsions also contain an emulsifier and at least 10 wt. per cent of a polymeric Mannich base especially water-in-oil emulsions of which the oil phase is a C 10-13 n-paraffin mixture, are used as flocculating, sedimentation and dewatering agents. The Mannich base is suitably an acrylamide polymer or copolymer modified by reaction with formaldehyde and an amine. Alternatively, it is the product of polymerising acrylamide which has been modified prior to polymerisation by such a reaction. Illustrative examples are given of (11) flocculation of an aqueous clay suspension, (12) clarification of a titanium extraction solution, and (14) dehydration of communal sludge.
