Abstract
1462868 Electro-recovering silver PHOTOGRAPHIC SILVER RECOVERY Ltd 17 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 30650/73 Addition to 1285602 Heading C7B An apparatus for recovering Ag from used bleach-fix photographic solution comprises an electrolytic recovery or plating cell 11 preceded by a buffer or store tank 12 receiving the used solution and from which the solution is pumped to the cell intermittently by metering pump 13, switch means operated according to the solution level in the buffer tank, e.g. top and bottom level switches A and D, to control the pump and switching on or off of plating current of the cell, and means for automatically separating the cathode assembly and the solution from one another when the plating current is switched off; e.g. either lifting means also controlled by the switch means for automatically lifting the cathode assembly out of the solution in the cell, or a pump 14 started by the switch means for pumping solution out of the cell automatically, when the plating current is switched off. The apparatus may also include a pump 15 for filling the cell with solution from the tank; the top level switch A of the tank start pumps 13, 15 for filling the cell and switches on the plating current, the top level switch B of the cell switches off the pump 15, the bottom level switch D of the tank switches off the pump 13 and plating current and switches on the pump 14 for emptying the cell, and the bottom level switch E of the cell switches off the pump 14. The cathode assembly preferably comprises a series of frustoconical discs 18 spaced e.g. by spacers 20 along a vertical shaft 19, each disc having drain hole 21 near the centre.
