1462854 Aldehyde- or ketone-peroxide derivatives AKZO NV 21 Dec 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 34686/76 Divided out of 1462853 Heading C2C An organic peroxidic compound having the formula wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 may be the same or different and each represents a branched or unbranched alkyl group, if desired substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl or halogen; an aryl group which may be substituted by alkyl, hydroxyl alkoxy or halogen or an arakyl group wherein the aryl part may be substituted by alkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy or halogen or wherein one or more of R 1 plus R 2 ; R 3 plus R 4 or R 1 plus R 4 may form a branched or unbranched alkylene group or wherein R 1 together with R 2 and R 3 may form a branched or unbranched alkylidene group is prepared by reacting carbonyl compounds of the formula with an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide in an organic solvent in which both the carbonyl compounds and the product peroxidic compound are soluble in the presence of an acid catalyst in an amount of 0À2 to 200 mg. equivalent per mole of carbonyl groups, removing water by distillation and, if desired, subsequently removing the acid catalyst. Many compounds which may be prepared by said method are listed. In the examples 3,6-diethyl-3,6-dihydroperoxy - 4,5 - dioxoctane; bis - (5 - methyl- 3 - hydroperoxyheptyl - 3,3<SP>1</SP> - peroxide); 7,10 - dihydroperoxy - 8,9 - dioxadecane, 12,15 - dihydroperoxy - 13,14 - dioxahexacosane or 2,7 - dimethyl - 3,6 - dihydroperoxy - 4,5- dioxaoctane is prepared by reacting diethyl ketone, ethyl isoamylketone, heptanal, dodecanal or isobutyraldehyde in benzene, diisobutylphthalate toluene or n-butyl acetate in the presence of an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide and p-toluene sulphonic acid, sulphuric acid or a strong acid ion exchanger and in some cases, after the distillation of water, the acid is removed by the addition of base or by filtration and the product further purified.
