1462103 Storage systems N K ACKER 11 March 1974 [10 March 1973] 10773/74 Heading A4T Apparatus for removing stored articles from generally horizontal supports 2 by pushing them to a point at which they fall off the support 2 includes pushing device 3 for the supports 2 and a driving element which may be positioned to drive the pushing device 3 of a selected support 2, a scanning device 21 being provided to sense markings on the pushing device 3 to control the drive. The driving element may comprise a gear wheel 15 for meshing with a corresponding input drive gear 4 of the pushing device 3. The wheel 15 is driven by a chain 13 from a motor 12, and, when engaged with the appropriate gear 4, drives a belt 20, to which is attached a carrier 36 running within a hollow bar 30. Shafts 39, Fig.6, bearing guiding wheels 37, Fig.5, project upwardly through a slot in the upper region of the bar 30, and a bracket 41 attached to the shafts 39 bears a pusher member 42 for location behind the rearmost article of a stored series. The belt 20 preferably bears the markings sensed by the scanning device 21. The gearwheel 15 is supported on a frame 6 for location adjacent the required support 2 by a linkage comprising arms 16, 17 and an arm 9 of a lever 11 bearing the motor 12, the lever 11 being biased towards driving position of the gearwheel 15 by a spring 18 against the effect of a driving magnet (not shown). A slide member 8 is provided for guiding articles as they fall from the support 2. Alternatively, Fig.2 (not shown), the pushing device 3 may have an input gearwheel 28 with a concave bevelled profile for engagement with a bevel gear 24 driven by the motor 12, and the pusher 42 may be driven e.g. by a screw and nut connection from the drive gear 4.
