Abstract
1462076 Preparing phosphonate esters MITSUI TOATSU CHEMICALS Inc 22 Feb 1974 [28 Feb 1973] 8295/74 Heading C2P [Also in Division D1] A methylol group-free compound of Formula I where each of R 1 to R 4 is an alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxyalkyl group which may be substituted by one or more chlorine or bromine atoms and X is a residue, wherein A and B are H or organic groups which may complete a heterocyclic ring, may be prepared either by the reaction (1) in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. p-toluene sulphonic acid, or by reaction (2) Reaction (1) is exemplified. The compound (I) is curable in the presence of cellulose-containing fibrous material, e.g. textiles after application thereto as an aqueous medium whereby the methylene ether groups are split to release the species X as a cellulose cross-linking agent. The preferred residues X are those derived from: ethylene urea, propylene urea, dialkyl urea, dihydroxy ethylene urea, dialkoxy ethylene urea, pyrimidones, triazones and urones. The composition may further contain an acidic catalyst and a precondensate, e.g. methylol melamine. The fibrous material may be cotton.
