Abstract

146,168. Devers, O. G., (P÷hl-Werke Zweigneiderlassung der Maschinen-und Kranbau Akt.-Ges. zu D³sseldorf). June 25, 1920. Slipping-preventing attachments to wheels of the type comprising radially adjustable blades adapted to be held in positions projecting from cr lying within the rim. The apertures in the rim through which the blades D project are sufficiently wide to allow the earth accumulating thereon to be pressed inside the rim and be discharged at the sides of the wheel. The blades are pivoted to a ring G rotatable on the wheel hub and are guided in slots in members E rotatably mounted in the rim. The ring G is rotated by suitable toothed gearing on a shaft E<2> Fig. 2, which also carries a worm wheel M and is in turn driven by a shaft K<1> through an intermediate shaft L with a worm and worm wheel. The gearing is mounted in a casing suitably attached to the wheel hub. The blade D and its shank are, in some cases, integral, Fig. 5, the shank being pressed to channel shape and the depression being carried into the blade to form a strengthening rib as at D<3>. Fig. 3 shows a curved blade. The rim consists of a pair of angle rings A<1>, A<2>, Fig. 2, and the tread A may consist of separate plates spaced apart at their ends to form the openings for the grippers, or may consist of a ring of inverted channel section, Fig. 8, with the openings made therein. The edges of the openings are reinforced by ribs formed either by thickening the metal or pressing inwards or outwards. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following constructional details : The means for rotating the ring G, Figs. 1 and 2 (Cancelled) may consist of toothed gearing actuated manually or by the motor of the vehicle, and may be locked by a pin engaging holes in the ring and the wheel hub or by a spring pawl. In another arrangement, the shaft of one of the pinions forming part of the gearing is axially movable against a spring and carries a ratchet wheel which acts as the locking device. The blades are formed from sheet metal and have strengthenings ribs D<1>, D<2> either attached thereto or pressed up from the metal. In the construction shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled), the rim consists of lengths 0 of T-section metal connected by bent plates P<1>, P<2> which provide the spaces for the blades D. The guide pieces are open at the sides on which the ribs D', D<2> of the blades are formed and are held in the plates P' by heads Q, the arrangement permitting removal of individual blades by detaching the plates P'. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
