Abstract

1461093 Colour forming sheet material MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 1 April 1974 [2 April 1973] 14436/74 Heading G2C A sheet material, capable of forming a stable coloured image when subjected imagewise to vapours of salicylic acid, comprises an active colour forming layer comprising a mixture of (A) a colourless protonatable chromogenous dye-forming colour progenitor and (B) a colourless oxidizable N-hydrocarbyl-substituted dihydroheterocyclic amine precursor of a styryl or cyanine dye. The colour forming layer may include a polymeric filmforming binder and be coated on a transparent film. (A) may be N-bis-(p-dimethylaminophenyl) methyl morpholine, N-bis-(p-dimethylaminophenyl) methyl benzenesulphonamide, N-(n-butyl)-N - (bis(4-dimethylaminophenyl) methylene) urea, 2-(p-hydroxystyryl)-3, 3-dimethylindolenine, bis- (p-diethylamino) triphenyl hydroxymethane, or 2-[p-(N-methyl-N-cyanoethylamino) styrl]-3, 3-dimethylindolenine. (B) may have as its basic structure the linkage where R is 1-6C alkyl and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP> either separately or in combination represent skeletal structures including a total of at least 6C=C bonds in conjugated arrangement with the N-C bond, e.g. a 1, 3, 3-trimethyl indoline (see U.K. application 14439/74). This sheet material may be used in face to face contact with an acid source sheet comprising a sheet material having coated on one face salicylic and/or benzoic acid and a binder to form a copy sheet assembly. The sheets may have a thin acid impervious separator sheet positioned between them.
