Abstract

1461025 Enzymatic catalyst compositions RESEARCH CORP 27 June 1975 [1 July 1974] 27296/75 Heading C3H A method of preparing an enzymatic composition useful in heterogeneous catalysis comprises (1) reducing the hydrodynamic volume of an aqueous solution of the enzyme by adjusting the pH of the solution, (2) contacting the solution with a microporous carrier having micropores therein equal to or greater in volume than the reduced hydrodynamic volume of the enzyme so that the enzyme is free to enter within the pores of the carrier, and (3) readjusting the pH of the enzyme solution while in contact with the microporous carrier to increase the hydrodynamic volume thereof and physically trap the expanded enzyme within the pores of the microporous carrier. The method may be applied to isolation of water-soluble enzymes from their natural sources. Examples describe the preparation of urease, arginase and peroxidase compositions using cellulose pulp as support.
