Abstract

1460624 Ultrasonic inspection devices KRETZTECHNIK GmbH 14 May 1974 [25 May 1974] 21284/74 Heading G1G [Also in Division H3] In ultrasonic inspection of a specimenl, echo pulses are digitized and stored in a matrix 12 in addresses selected in accordance with the position of the transducer 2, the angles at which the sound is projected and received and the transit time of the sound, and if a selected address already contains data it is compared with the new data and the higher or lower value or the mean of the two values is read into the address, the data in the matrix being read out in accordance with a selectable program independent of the storage program. The comparison of existing and new data for an address may take account of the number of times that address has been selected. Read out may begin before read in is complete. The output may be displayed as curves on an oscilloscope, or as different brightnesses or colours. The data in all the addresses associated with a particular plane or curved section through the specimen may be displayed simultaneously to give a section image. A line image or three dimensional hologram may be produced.
