Abstract
1460571 Epoxy resin compositions CIBAGEIGY AG 1 Nov 1974 [16 Nov 1973 28 Aug 1974] 53298/73 and 37564/74 Heading C3B An adhesive composition comprises: (I) an epoxy resin; (II) a compound containing at least 2 SH groups per molecule; (III) a polyene containing, per average molecule, at least 2 ethylenic double bonds, each # to an atom of O, N or S, the sum of SH groups in II and ethylenic double bonds in III being >4; and (IV) as curing agent either a (cyclo)aliphatic amine having at least 3 hydrogen atoms attached to amino N or a tertiary amine having at least one N atom directly attached to (cyclo)aliphatic carbon atoms and at most 2 H atoms attached to amino N. I may be a diglycidyl ether or ester or an N-glycidyl compound. Examples of III are to be found in Specifications 1,278,934; 1,295,445 and 1,311,090 and in U.S. Specification 3,258,498. Typical III are polyesters prepared from maleic anhydride, especially with glycerol-propylene oxide adducts an acrylic ester of 2,2-bis-(p-glycidoxyphenyl)propane and the tetrakis(methacrylate) of pentaerythritol. IV may be polyalkylene polyamines, cycloaliphatic polyamines (e.g. isophorone diamine) and polyaminoamides, or a tertiary amine, e.g. 2,4,6,-tris-(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol. The adhesives have tack and green strength.
