Abstract

1460538 Automatic exposure control XEROX CORP 19 Aug 1974 [27 Aug 1973] 36393/74 Headings G2A G2H and G3R In a xerographic copying machine using a developer comprising toner particles and carrier particles, the exposure of the photo-conductive drum to the light image of an original is controlled in response to an error signal representing the difference between a reference signal and a signal corresponding to the detected optical density of toner particles deposited on a transparent electrode positioned in a non-image area of the photoconductive drum. The exposure may be controlled by varying the voltage of the power supply to the lamps illuminating the original, or by varying the width of a slit through which the light rays are passed. The error signal may also be used to dispense toner particles into the developer mix.
