Abstract
1460530 Heating and ventilating vehicles; air heaters DAIMLER-BENZ AG 23 Sept 1974 [19 Oct 1973] 41273/74 Headings F4V and F4S A vehicle heating and ventilation system comprises a heat exchanger having upper and lower headers connected by vertical tubes, the heat exchanger having its greatest dimension in the direction of the length of the tubes, throttling means for controlling the flow of engine cooling water through the heat exchanger, and means for supplying fresh air heated by the heat exchanger separately to upper and lower regions of the vehicle, the air supplied to the lower region being brought to a higher temperature than that supplied to the upper region. In the form shown, the upper header is divided into two chambers 5a, 5b and the water outflow therefrom is controllable by individually operable valves 8 for the right- and left-hand sides of the vehicle. Fresh air delivered by a blower 10 passes through a duct 11 to one or more closable centralized nozzles in the dashboard and through the heat exchanger. The heated air flow is divided, one part flowing through ducts 12 to dashboard nozzles and the other part being deflected into spaces 13 from which ducts lead to the vehicle upper and lower regions. A flap 14 in each space 13 can be turned by a shaft 15, which may be common to both flaps, to control the quantities of air flowing to the lower and upper regions.
