1460220 Air heating stoves W BAIER W BAIER L SCHOBER and E SCHLUMPRECHT 6 Dec 1974 [11 Dec 1973 9 July 1974] 52827/74 Heading F4S In an air heater for vehicles having a tubular combustion chamber 19 surrounded by a cylindrical heat exchanger comprising an inner casing 7 closed at one end and an outer casing 6, and a cylindrical equipment chamber 1 disposed coaxially of the combustion chamber 19 and receiving a burner unit 1a, the outer casing 6 of the heat exchanger and the peripheral wall 5 of the equipment chamber 1 are a unitary casting. Air to be heated supplied by a blower 21 passes through the space between the inner and outer casings 7 and 6 before leaving through an outlet 23. The inner casing 7, which may be cast integrally with the outer casing 6 and the peripheral wall 5, has ribs 24 on both its internal and external surfaces. The burner unit 1a, which includes an electric motor 2, a blower 3 for combustion-supporting air and a fuel feed 4, may be disposed in a casing (35, Fig. 4, not shown), which is introduced, as a preassembled tested unit, into the equipment chamber, the unit being secured to a flange (36) at the open end of the inner casing 6 by means of through bolts (37). A chamber 9 for receiving control facilities 10, 11 is defined in part by a lateral extension 8 of the unitary casting, the chamber 9 being closed by a cover 12. Spigots 13, 15 and 16 are formed in the unitary casting for receiving a spark plug 14, for the supply of combustion supporting air, and for discharge or combustion gases respectively. The inner casing 7 is provided with a lining 25 or a heat shield (54, Fig. 4), at its closed end.
