1459071 Ink ribbon cartridge NCR CORP 14 April 1975 [30 April 1974 6 May 1974] 15159/75 Heading B8M An ink ribbon cartridge 10 comprises a core member 32 rotatably mounted on a hub 30 of a spool 12, an endless inking ribbon 14 arranged in a coil of more than one turn and being positioned in a superposed relationship around the core member 32, and inking means which is either incorporated on the core member 32 by constructing the core member 32 of a porous material, such as felt or elastomeric material and impregnating the material with ink, or separate from the core member 32 by being in the form of an inking roller 72 (see Fig. 4), the arrangement being such that, in use, the ribbon 14 or 73 is unwound from the innermost convolution of the coil and inked either simultaneously as in the case of the former construction or inked by the roller 72 and re-wound around the outermost convolution of the coil after passing through a printing station 53. The endless ribbon is in the form of a mobius loop so that both sides of the ribbon are inked. A guide member 44 (Fig. 4) guides the ribbon 73 whereby it engages the bottom circumferential portion of the roller 72. The core member of the cartridge 70 of Fig. 4 includes upstanding and tapering walls 84 mounted on a plate 85, and the cartridge 70 includes cover (25), Fig. 5 (not shown) having a plurality of integral ribs 35 to assist in retaining the core in position and to prevent the turns of the ribbon coil from climbing out of their superposed relationships. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) the core is formed with tapering and upstanding walls (58) which are in contact with the porous material (50) of the core member such that the portion of the innermost convolution of the ribbon (48) between the upstanding walls (58) are inked by the porous core member (50).
