Abstract

The cyclic polybasic carboxylic acids or their salts correspond to the formula <IMAGE> in which M is hydrogen, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or optionally substituted ammonium, R is hydrogen or a -COOM or -SO3M radical, m is an integer from 3 to 8, n is zero or 1 and p is zero, 1 or 2. They can be incorporated as skin moisturizers in any desired skin-care and skin-protection compositions based on the conventional ingredients. Compositions of this type show the properties of maintaining or restoring the retention of water by the skin and thus keeping the skin soft and flexible and fully functioning.
