Abstract
1458770 Antistatic polyamides MONSANTO CO 21 Feb 1974 [22 Feb 1973] 7986/74 Heading C3R An antistatic mixture comprises (a) a fibreforming polycarbonamide which comprises 6 to 24 wt. per cent of aromatic nuclei and is either a copolyamide or a melt-blend of at least two different polyamides, and (b) as a distinct phase dispersed in (a) 1 to 15 wt. per cent of a non-fibre-forming polyalkylene ether transesterification product formed by transesterifying (i) ROOC-Y-COOR and (ii) where R is C 1-4 alkyl; Y is or C 1-20 alkylene; R<SP>1</SP> is a C 2-4 hydrocarbon radical; R<SP>11</SP> is C 12-24 alkyl; A and R<SP>111</SP> are C 2-4 alkylene; each n is an integer their total being 25 to 75; and X is H or C 1-4 alkyl; the mol. ratio of (i) : (ii) being from 1 : 9 to 1:1. Component (b) may have a M.W. up to 30,000. Component (a) preferably comprises nylon 6 or 66 and 6I and/or 6T units. The mixture may be formed into fibres for use in carpet piles, in such fibres (b) preferably takes the form of particles of diameter 0À05 to 1À5 micron and length at least 15 microns. In Example IV 75 p.p.m. Cu were also included in the composition.
