Abstract

1458687 Automatic control of position DORNIER GmbH 30 Sept 1974 42364/74 Heading G3R [Also in Division H3] A vertical axis (centrifuge) rotor is kept in position by a PD controller in response to phase displaced signals from two horizontal deviation sensors. The signals are analogue voltages applied to terminals al, bl of the circuit shown, whose output at a4, b4 energizes correspondingly placed electromagnets. The circuits are designed to provide damping of "circular" vibrations which occur both in the direction of rotation and in the opposite direction, and to filter out components in the sensor signals caused by the rotational axis not being truly coincident with the geometric axis. The latter is achieved in Section F, termed a "circular filter". 4a, 4b are operational amplifiers which receive the respective signals through resistors R1a, R1b and also cross-coupled signals via capacitors C1a, C1b whose reactance (when the rotor is at rated speed) equals the corresponding resistance. U1 is an inverter. The section KO is to improve the damping of vibrations in the direction of rotation; it features low-pass filters R3, C3, R4 for the direct signals and high pass filters C4, R6 for the crosscoupled signals. The section Kr is to improve damping in the opposite direction and also provides the PD characteristic. The input resistors R10 for the cross-coupled signals are a multiple of those, R9, for the direct signals.
