1458668 Screw and nut gearing; shaft couplings DAVY-LOEWY Ltd 26 March 1974 [30 March 1973] 15353/73 Headings F2Q and F2U In a screw drive mechanism which may be employed for roll position adjustments in a rolling mill, a rotatable screw member 4 has its threaded portion engaged in a nut 6, held captive in a stationary housing 8, and on its unthreaded portion 10 it carries both a secured sleeve 16 and also a freely rotatable sleeve 12, with removable coupling members 22 and 24 for connecting these sleeves together. An internallysplined drive gear-wheel 14 may engage external splines on sleeve 12, and coupling member 22 may also have internal splines for engagement with splined flanges 18, 20, of sleeves 16, 1@ respectively. The drive gears of two such mechanisms may be connected for simultaneous positioning of chocks 2 at both ends of a roll, for which relative adjustments are permitted by temporary removal of the coupling members from one assembly.
