Abstract
1458523 Bowden mechanisms TELEFLEX MORSE Ltd 27 March 1974 [27 April 1973] 20264/73 Heading F2K [Also in Division E2] A plastics end fitting 10 of the outer sheath 2 of a Bowden type push-pull cable assembly for controlling the governor of a diesel engine, has a number of resilient segments 17 forming a snap-on connector for simple attachment of the sheath 2 to a vehicle dashboard or bulkhead 15, which attachment is completed by a ring 20 fitted, from the other side of the bulkhead 15, into engagement with the inner periphery of the resilient segments 17 whereby the segments 17 cannot be inwardly flexed such that the fitting 10 cannot be accidentally displaced from the bulkhead. As shown, the ring is formed as an annular skirt 20 on a manual plastics control knob 4 moulded on a rod 8 which is swaged to the end of the cable core 3. Alternatively (Fig. 4) not shown, the ring (24) may be separately formed and stationed to lock and retain the fitting 10 irrespective of movement of the control knob 4 for which it additionally forms an abutment. The resilient segments 17 are interspaced with segments 18 having shoulders 18b serving to axially position the fitting 10 on the bulkhead 15.
