Lasting and pulling-over.-Relates to upperpulling machines of the type described in Specification 7005/00, and consists in preventing the action of fastener-handling means unless the upper is under tens.ion; so that if at the end of the upper-pulling operation, the shoe has to be removed and the machine caused to complete its cycle to bring its parts into starting position for performing the upper-pulling operation a second time, no tacks will be delivered. The Figures show the application to a machine of the type described in Specification. 920/15 5 having a tack cylinder 202, tack driver bars 192, gripper updraw lever 8, and slide 246 effecting movement of side clamp arms after the upper-pulling operation has been completed. Should the shoe be removed before the movement of the slide 246, the grippers are elevated by their up-draw springs and their lever 8 depresses a rod made in two parts 284, 288 separated by a spring. This movement depresses spring plungers 274 which lock together members 256, 262 rotatably mounted on a shaft 258, Fig. 5. On the movement of the slide 246, an extension thereon turns the member 256 and rocks a shaft 222 connected with the member 262 by links and bell-crank levers. The shaft 222 when thus rocked moves piates 212 locking the tack driver bars 192, and also moves a rod 234 into the path of a stop 300 on the tack cylinder. The invention is particularly useful in machines of the type described in Specification 16398/15, where the last is bottom downward.
