Abstract
183,574. Bates, A., Minett, W. T., and British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd. April 26, 1921. Lasting and pulling-over.- In a pulling-over or pulling- over and lasting machine, means are provided to give warning of an abnormality (e.g. if no upper is gripped, or if any one gripper has lost its grip) in the state of any of a plurality of upper tensioning devices, and to prevent a later operation (e.g. tack-insertion) being carried out with such abnormality continuing. In the construction shown applied to a machine of the kind described in Specification 150,424, means for preventing the insertion of tacks are operated through a rod 3 adapted to be moved into line with a block 6 on the cam slide bar 2 (referred to as 252 in Specification 145,851) when any one of the gripper updraw levers 13 is not in correct tensioning position. Each lever 13 has pivoted to its rear end a link 14 which is slotted at 15 to receive one pin 12 which passes through all the links 14. The pin 12 is carried by one arm 11 of a bell-crank lever, loosely mounted on a shaft 10, the other arm 9 of which is yieldingly connected by a rod 7 to the rod 3. The rod 3 is connected through members 1, 4 fast on a rockshaft 5 to a link 17, the other end of which is pivoted to an arm 18 fast on the shaft 10. A second arm 19 fast on the shaft 10 is pivoted to a link 20 which operates, through bell-crank levers 22, 26 and a link 25, to move a recess 31 on a sliding bar 30 into the path of a lip 32 on the tack pot 33. A third arm 34 fast on the shaft 10 is pivoted to a link 35 the other end of which is pivoted to one arm 36 of a bell-crank lever fixed on one end of a shaft 37 having a bearing in a boss 38 formed on one of the blocks 39 about which the front tacker arm 40 swings. The other arm 41 of the bell-crank lever is connected bv a link 42 to an arm 43 mounted on a shaft 44 in the other block 45. The shaft 37 has on its opposite end a cam 46 and the shaft 44 carries two similar cams. The cams are embraced by the forked ends of slide rods 47 the other ends of which are arranged to enter notches 49 in the driver bars 50 when the shafts 37, 44 are rotated by the rod 35, preventing actuation of the driver bars. The lip 32 and recess 31 maintain the slide rods 30, 47 in operative position against the action of a spring attached to the arm 19 until the lip 32 is withdrawn on the recturn movement of the tack pot driving. mechanism. By inverting the action of the mechanism described it can be used to ensure that no tacks are separated or driven unless the grippers have moved far enough in tensioning the upper to be well clear of the feather of the insole in their in-closing movement.
