Abstract

1458486 Aromatic diesters E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 14 Feb 1975 [15 Feb 1974] 6272/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] A continuous process for the preparation of a dialkyl ester of an aromatic diacid from a waste polyester of the aromatic diacid and an aliphatic diol comprises the steps of (I) contacting the polyester waste with an excess of a monohydric alcohol at a pressure substantially equal to that of the partial vapour pressure of the monohydric alcohol and in the presence of an ester exchange catalyst, (2) deactivating the ester exchange catalyst with a sequestering agent at superatmospheric pressure and (3) vapourizing and recycling excess monohydric alcohol.
