Abstract

1458074 Coating compositions for reprographic sheets COATES BROS & CO Ltd 18 Feb 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 9124/74 Heading C3P A reprographic sheet for use in electrostatography, is produced by coating the surface of an electrically relatively conducting substrate (i.e. having a surface resistivity of 10<SP>6</SP> to 10<SP>9</SP> ohms per square) with a coating composition comprising a suspension of one or more electrically relatively non-conducting polymers (i.e. having a surface resistivity of 10<SP>11</SP> to 10<SP>14</SP> ohms per square) in an aliphatic hydrocarbon medium in which they are insoluble, and subsequently allowing the coating to dry. The polymer may be dispersed by means of a dispersion stabilizer such as fatty acid soap of a polyvalent metal, or a polymeric stabilizer. Suitable polymers are homo- and copolymers of vinyl esters, esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid, or of a vinyl aromatic monomer. Especially preferred polymers are vinyl acetate/alkyl acrylate copolymers and a styrene/ethyl acrylate polymer. A photoconductive material such as ZnO may also be present. In the examples, the substrate used is conventional conductive paper.
