Abstract
1457813 Taking up shock in flexible elements DIAMOND POWER SPECIALTY CORP 14 March 1974 [1 Aug 1973] 11516/74 Addition to 1420538 Heading B8B A support for a helically coiled flexible power conductor 32 extending between a fixed location 33 and a lance blower carriage 22 reciprocable along a supporting beam 20, comprises a rod 35 extending through and supporting the helical conductor, a sleeve 66 attached to the carriage 22 and slidably overfitted upon the rod for receipt within the helix, and a knob 68 attached to the sleeve at its free end and being a size frictionally to oppose but to permit escape of successive convolutions of the conductor during extension of its helix in use. The knob 68 is formed of nylon and has a wall 69 normal to the sleeve axis, which delays the release of convolutions from the helix during extension and an inclined wall 74 which permits easy movement of the convolutions back on to the sleeve during helix contraction, the delayed release reducing stresses in the leading end of the conductor helix and preventing binding of the stretched convolutions on a conical guide 60 within the helix at the leading end thereof. The movable leading portion of the conductor is connected to an arm 40 which is mounted through a pin 42 to the carriage 22, permitting vertical pivoting of the arm 40, the latter being biased upwardly by leaf springs 45 providing rolling engagement between a roller 50 on the arm 40 and the beam 20. The leading end of the conductor 32 is attached to a block 54 pivoted at 52 to the arm 40, the conical guide 60 also being secured to this block 54. In another embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown) the conical guide is omitted.
