1457692 Abrasive products HERMESSCHLEIFMITTEL GmbH [trading as NORDDEUTSCHE SCHLEIFMITTEL-INDUSTRIE CHRISTIANSEN & CO] 13 May 1974 [26 Sept 1973 5 Oct 1973 7 March 1974] 21085/74 Heading C4V A grinding material comprises a multiplicity of bodies having shells formed of abrasive grains bonded together by a non-abrasive bonding means, the shell being mechanically rigid so as to resist grinding forces substantially without strain. The thickness of the shells is preferably on average less than 10 times the mean abrasive grain metal. The grinding material may be in the form of an abrasive belt. The shells may surround a carrier particle whose mechanical strength is resistant to stresses occurring during grinding is substantially less than that of the shells. At least some of the bodies may contain within their shells a substance which is gaseous or a substance which is liquid under grinding conditions.
