Abstract
1285292 Grinding CARBORUNDUM CO 24 July 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 35938/70 Heading B3D A contact wheel for an abrasive belt comprises a metal rim having a wide central section 5 of substantially uniform diameter and two narrow marginal sections 8 of substantially uniform diameter greater than that of the central section, and a rim facing consisting of hard rubber secured to the central section and the walls of the marginal sections and having an outer diameter substantially the same as that of the marginal sections to present a composite working periphery, the latter being formed with transverse grooves and lands. The rim is connected by a web 3 to a hub 2 and may be of metal, such as aluminium. The periphery of the rim is formed with the recess 5 and marginal portions, and the recess is filled with a natural or synthetic rubber having a hardness of 30 to 100 on the Shore durometer D scale. The composite rim consisting of the hard rubber and metal marginal sections is formed with lands 13 and grooves 14 disposed at 0 to 85 degrees to the axis of the wheel.
