Abstract

1457639 Knitting WIRKMASCHINENBAU KARL-MARX-STADT VEB 26 April 1974 [28 April 1973] 18368/74 Headings D1C and D1K A weft thread laying apparatus for a warp knitting or stitch-bonding machine comprises spaced parallel transporters 1, 2 for carrying wafts to the knitting zone and a layer 3 for several wefts moved transversely while coupled thereto but movable in the opposite direction when a group of wefts has been laid. The transporters 1, 2 are connected to driven conveyor chains 11, 12. The layer 3 is provided with eyes e.g. 3a, 3b for laying weft threads 9, 10 in portions 54a, b of a group 54, and is movable transversely by a guide 4 running along rods 14, 15 and driven by chains 17, 18 from a drive shaft 24. A rod 31 is fixed to the layer and is provided with sprockets 32, 33 engaging the transporters via magnetic clutches 34, 35. The layer is arranged to loop wefts around one transporter, and while coupled therto via sprockets 32, 33, to traverse to the other transporter, so withdrawing weft threads. It pauses at 'the other transporter, while declutched so that the latter moves one weft spacing before making the next traverse. When a group of wefts has been completed, the layer is moved away from the knitting zone, by a distance equivalent to one group before the sequence is repeated. This is accomplished by cables 36, 37 attached to the rod 31 and raised by rocking levers 40, 41 with dogs 44, 45 fixed on rotating chains. The wefts may be clamped by clamps (69 Figure 12 not shown) on the transporters and cut, after at least one loop has been laid. The fabric comprises successive groups of wefts, each including several portions of one or more loops of one weft. Long floats of uncut wefts, or the out weft ends will lie adjacent alternate, or one selvedge only.
