Abstract
1457607 Firing gypsum LAMBERT INDUSTRIES 6 Sept 1974 [8 March 1974] 39096/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] Gypsum is heat treated to produce plaster of Paris in at least three zones through which the material is moved, and the material is stirred in its passage through the zones. The material can be recycled from one zone to a preceding zone, to enable the heating to be controlled. Gypsum is fed at 11 to a rotary kiln heated by gases from a burner 16 flowing through tubes 10 parallel to the kiln axes and arranged to be submerged in the charge during part of the rotation of the kiln. Annular partitions 5-8 through which the tubes 10 pass, divide the kiln into zones, and blades in the central orifice of each partition assist in feeding the material from zone to zone. Duct 17, Fig. 4, leading to spiral conduits 13, enable a regulatable amount of the material to be recycled to the preceding zone. Heating gases may be recirculated to the burner 16, and the flow through the tubes 10 may be regulated to control the heating.
