Abstract

1457509 Disinfectant compositions JEYES GROUP Ltd 29 Jan 1974 [7 Feb 1973] 6063/ 73 Heading ASE A disinfectant composition comprises a phenolic disinfectant e.g. a tar acid, a vegetable 'or mineral oil, a surface active agent and a solvent which is miscibie in all proportions with both water and oil eg. alkoxy aliphatic alcohols and polyalkylene glycol. Specified phenolic disinfectants include tar acid fractions boiling above 190‹C, cresylic acids, chlorinated phenols, phenol homologues and substituted phenols. Specified oils are kerosene, or cottonseed, castor or tall oil. A small amount of emulsion stabiliser e.g. sodium recinoleate soap and an insecticide e.g. 2% by wt of I naphthyl-N-methyl carbamate or YBHC may also be present. The composition comprises 16-55% by wt (preferably 45%) of disinfectant, 5-50% by wt (preferably 22%) of oil, 5-30% by wt (preferably 20%) of surface active agent and 5-50% by wt preferably 10%) of solvent. Suitable surface active agents are anionic agents such as alkyl benzene sulphonates, alkyl ether sulphates and aryl ether sulphates (preferably neutralised with amines or alkali metals) and nonionic agents such as ethoxylated saturated vegetable oils.
