Abstract

1457332 Selective printing SPERRY RAND CORP 26 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 41919/74 Heading B6F In a printer the spacing between a carriage 28 carrying a chain of printing characters 18 and a printing medium 12 is determined by extending a probe 21, until it is fully extended, and then moving the carriage until it is placed relative to the probe 21 such that the desired print gap exists between the carriage 28 and the medium 12. As shown the carriage is moved by rotation of eccentric 22 and the probe by movement of arm 29. A bank of hammers 11 lies opposite the characters 18. In operation the carriage is first moved as far as possible from the medium 12, then the probe 21 is fully extended, then the carriage 28 is moved till it is in the desired position relative to the printing medium 12 and then the probe 21 is retracted.
