Abstract
1456978 Suspension and dropping of loads MESSERSCHMITT - BOLKOW - BLOHM GmbH 6 Dec 1973 [14 Dec 1972] 56690/73 Heading F3C An arrangement for the suspension and dropping of a load from an aircraft, wherein the load is suspended from pivoted hooks, steadied by members which are urged towards the load and, is ejected by means which are actuated by a combustible charge. The arrangement has hollow pins 10a, 10B, Fig. 1, which extend into depressions 11, 12 respectively in the load 2 and has hooks 4, 4 which engage lugs 3, 3 respectively, the lugs being mounted on the load 2. The hooks 4, 4 each pivot about a fulcrum 5 on a housing 1 and are each connected with a respective push-rod 6, so that, when cartridges in housings 15 are ignited, pressurized-gas acts on a piston in a cylinder 8 to move a lever 9 which actuates the push-rods 6, via rod 7, to release the hooks 4 from the lugs 3. The pressurizedgas also passes along conduits 16, 16 in the housing 1 to move pistons 14, 14 in the respective pins 10a, 10b, the pistons being urged against portions 13, 13 of the load 2 ejecting the latter. The load is steadied by arms 17, Fig. 3, which are carried by the housing 1 and are provided with bearing plates 18 having screw-thread adjusting means. In another embodiment a load 20, Fig. 5, having four lugs 3 is suspended by four hooks 4 and is guided by four pins 21 in housings 1, 1. The pins 21 serve as cylinders for ejection pistons 14 and are resiliently mounted in the housings by springs 22. A depression 11, Fig. 7, in the load 20 accurately locates one pin 21. Another pin 21 is received in a slot 12 and the other two pins 21 are received with clearance in a respective depression 23. The pins are guided by bushes 24, Fig. 5, which are screwed into the housing 1 and also serve to steady the load 20. Lever 9 is connected with a lever 25 which interconnects the two housings via a lever 26 and an actuating shaft 27, Fig. 6. Thus the hooks can be released even if one of the cartridges fails to ignite. In a further embodiment a load 30, Fig. 8, is provided with suspension fittings 32, Fig. 11, each having two lateral apertures 33 which are engaged by hook parts 34, Fig. 10, of a double hook 31. Each fitting 32 has a bore 35, Fig. 11, and is provided with a collar 36 by which the fitting 32 is received in the load 30 and secured by a screw 37, Fig. 8. The housing 1 has two flanges 38 into which are screwed bolts 39 on which pins 40 are resiliently mounted by springs 41. Ejection pistons 14 are provided and act directly on the load 30. Wedges 42, 42, Fig. 10, for each double hook 31 are inserted between the respective fitting 32 and the respective flange 38 of the housing 1. The load 30 is suspended prior to the insertion of the wedges.
